Creating a Museum Exhibit
Summary
Project Goal
To create a museum exhibit that challenged its visitors to think about valuing an item beyond just the amount of money that it may be worth. Each activity within the exhibit asked visitors to question how they valued different objects and even themselves. Some activities even allowed visitors to explore the negative outcomes that can arise when too much of our focus is on this dollar value through precedents like the environmental effects of an oil pipeline. Visitors left the exhibit reflecting on new ways to connect with their community.
My Role
I wore many hats; from designer to researcher to writer. My role included designing and building interactive activity stations throughout the exhibit that taught positive and alternative forms of exchanging goods. For example, teaching visitors about Creative Commons (CC) licensing through an online game. While the exhibit was on display, a visitor study was implemented to assess how the exhibit changed visitor attitudes on monetary worth.
